Euoplocephalus - An Armored Dinosaur

Name: Euoplocephalus

Pronounced:
You-oh-ploh-SEF-a-lus

Time Lived: Late Cretaceous Period - 110 million years ago

Where Lived: Mostly North America, Europe

Euoplocephalus was a tank-like dinosaur with bony plates as hard as rock. It was a medium-sized dinosaur sometimes 26 feet long that loved to eat plants. Its group name is Ankylosaurus - the largest of the armored dinosaurs. Euoplocephalus had a secret weapon against big and very dangerous carnivores. Its weapon was a 60 pound club on its tail that could break a T-Rex's shin.

Some people say that T-Rex needed a lot of armor to kill a Euoplocephalus. Its nickname was "well armored head" because its head had everything. It had two short horns on each side of its cheeks and bony hard plates on the top of its head. It was very rare for a T-Rex and other carnivores to kill Euoplocephalus. Its cousin, Hylaeosaurus, did not have a soft belly like Euoplocephalus. Instead it had bony plates on its belly.

Euoplocephalus is my favorite of all dinosaurs because of its big 60 pound club and because of its big, razor-sharp spikes.
